Matisse museum, Nice

The image depicts a museum or gallery space featuring a colorful wall mural made up of various abstract shapes in bright colors. In the foreground, two people are standing in front of a modern interactive display table, where they seem to be engaging with the touchscreen interface. The floor is tiled, and there are sculptural elements or seating arranged around the room, contributing to an artistic atmosphere. The overall setting appears to be inviting and educational, encouraging interaction with the exhibits.

In the hall of the Matisse Museum in Nice, a digital table designed by us invites the public to participate in a collaborative puzzle. The goal is to reassemble Flowers and Fruits, a composition made of cut-out gouache papers created by Henri Matisse between 1952 and 1953.

We developed this device with our friends from Mosquito. It is an observation game in the form of a large puzzle, developed using web technologies with the SPIP CMS.

The game is designed to be sufficiently challenging, encouraging the viewer to demonstrate genuine attention and careful observation of the artwork. It serves as a pretext to promote a deeper look at artistic creation.

The application is multi-touch and allows for smooth manipulation of the elements. All shapes are movable, and rotation is done with two fingers, one serving as a pivot. The transparent parts of the cut-out gouache images are not active, faithfully reproducing reality: only the areas containing real pixels can be manipulated. Additionally, a simple tap on an element brings it to the foreground.
